Today my colleagues I had the pleasure of hosting the Flipped Learning Network's one-day regional workshop. "Flipped" learning happens when a teacher delivers content, typically a lecture or demonstration, to the students via a video (often referred to as a vodcast), which they watch at home. Then the class time is used for 1-on-1 interaction with the teacher. In many cases teachers who "flip" are moving around the room answering questions and supporting the students all the while acting as a facilitator of learning instead of the sage on the stage. The best part is that students no longer have to wait until the next day to ask a question about the homework. Now, they are doing the problem sets, diagrams, etc. in class and the teacher is right there with them. The workshop today was only one of the many events the Flipped Learning Network puts on each month. Click here to see their calendar of events.
