This week, my time was primarily spent doing some research and development for projects that will be coming up in the next few weeks. However, I did make some time to work with each of the grades. Here are a few examples of the projects we are working on:

1. Transitional Kindergarten used the Camera and Drawing Pad app to collect and identify different shapes around the room. Drawing Pad is so easy to use and the kids were loving the simple UI (user interface) and intuitive nature of the app. The next day the teachers and I worked with the students to group the shapes and drop them into Drawing Pad. Examples of the students' work is to the left.
2.Grade 3 has started to use Pearson SuccessNet
on the MacBooks. The online tools and games are intuitive and easy to use. Notice how the students are using the laptop and paper and pencil. The one issue we have found is that most of the materials are not iPad compatible. While the third graders are primarily using iPads, we are lucky to have a laptop cart available to use for things like this.
3. Grade 4 is writing their own book reviews and posting in KidBlog for their classmates and teachers to read and comment back to them. This is an excellent alternative to the traditional book report. We are looking forward to the day when our blogs are open the to public so that anyone out there can read and comment on their reviews. They might even get lucky enough to have an author comment back.
4. Grade 1 is using Book Creator to make a "Symbols of America" book. They first took 10 pictures of symbols of America and then dropped the pictures into Book Creator and typed a simple sentence or two about the symbol.
5. Grade 3 Spanish class was using the iPad camera to film each other having a conversation. It was fun to work with the students helping them learn how to hold the iPad and how best to film the conversation. Lucky for me they didn't need any help with the Spanish, No hablo Espanol.
