What matters most to a 1:1 program?

What are the most important technology infrastructure items needed for a successful 1:1 program?  That's a great question.  Would it be laptops?  Could it be network resources?  How about access to clouds storage?  I say it is all three!  Without all of these things in place, a 1:1 program is just a bunch of hardware given to students who are going to play games instead of enhance their learning.  That said, what about PD (professional development) for teachers.  That is probably the most important.  Over the past 10 years I have watched schools roll-out technology to the students and not give teachers the training necessary to transform the classroom.

At my current school we did a number of things that many schools aren't able to do.
1. We rolled the laptops out to the faculty 6 months before the students.
2. We provided 16 different technology training seminars over the summer.
3. We gave faculty admin access to their own machines.
4. We sent dozens of faculty to offsite technology training.
ETC......

That is just the beginning.  I will post more about what steps we took to get our school ready to roll-out 1100 device in just 13 months.
